The Seychelles

The Republic of Seychelles is a group of 115 islands in the Western Indian Ocean, 1000 miles off the coast of Africa. With a population of just 84,000, the Seychelles has the smallest population of any African state. The Seychelles have a diverse cultural heritage, with a population comprised solely of immigrants from many countries, including France, other African nations, India and China. The official languages are French, English and Seychellois Creole.

The Seychelles offer an idyllic setting for a holiday with plenty of options for those who want to be as active or inactive as they desire. Water sports are the popular choice for those seeking adventure in these islands. Coral reef diving is a popular sport. Since spear gun fishing was banned in the 1960’s the marine life around the islands is unafraid of divers and their beauty can be witnessed at extraordinarily close range. With over 1000 species of fish recorded, scuba diving and snorkelling in the Seychelles can be a breathtaking experience. Other activities to witness the beauty of the islands can include hiking on the islands or sailing around them. Boats can easily be hired, with or without staff, and islands are close enough together to make island hopping by boat an easy option.

For those who merely want to indulge themselves there are countless stretches of sandy white beaches where visitors can lounge in the sun, gazing out at the brilliant blue waters. With an average annual temperature of 29°c, the Seychelles make an ideal setting for sheer relaxation. Find out the benefits of ssd before you travel.
